Subsoil of the Ekibastuz region is rich with minerals: coal, copper-molybdenum, polymetallic, kobalt-nikel ores and nonmetallic minerals (quartz sand, limestones, porfirita, stocks of cement, brick, ceramic raw materials, etc.).
In the sixties declared by All-Union building - the Ekibastuz fuel and energy region turned into a large industrial complex of the country (ETEK) and made a big contribution to development of coal mining and the electric power. Here 60% of the electric power made in Kazakhstan are developed. Coal mining makes 70 million tons per year. Daily 50 echelons with coal is left from Ekibastuz to Russia. The car turnover makes more than 23 thousands cars a month.
EETI named after the academician K. Satpayev is the only higher education institution in the Ekibastuz region with the population more than 250 thousands people and in 20 years of existence trained more than 6000 engineers and bachelors-miners, power engineering specialists, heatpower engineering specialists, transport workers, builders and economists for fuel and energy complex of the country. 88-90% of graduates of institute find a job in the first year of the termination and in the next years 100% that testifies to a demand of graduates of institute in the region and to high quality of preparation. A number of graduates of the EETI works with the diploma of EETI in Canada, America, Germany, Russia and other foreign countries.
