In 2003 together with the specialists of LLP "Maikuben West" the research "Substantiation of effective boundaries of application of open cast mining and completeness of extraction of the Shoptykol lignite reserves by new technologies" was carried out. The same year the prepatent № 13674 dated 09.09.2003 for the invention "Method of producing lignin-alkaline reagent and device for its implementation" was received which was registered in the State Register of Inventions of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
In 2006 the department carried out an initiative scientific work "Research of effective technology of stripping works in the development of gently sloping stratal coal deposits in difficult hydro geological conditions," by results of which the following developments in the project practice of LLP "Karagandagidroshaht K" were implemented:
- A new method of the mining and geometrical analysis of gently sloping deposits;
- the methods of optimizing the mineral production distribution in the joint working out of adjacent areas of the quarry field;
- Recommendations on the opening of rock horizons of the "Maikuben" Central coal mine section and on the terms of transfer to the internal stacking technology;
- Non-transport mining technology of the main overburden ledge;
- optimization methods of the process parameters and work organization of the excavator-dumping complexes with a multiple transshipment of rocks with different strengths;
- a new scheme of excavation by the excavator dumping technological complex using it in mining operations of the railway transport.
The expected economic effect of their implementation is 1.07 bln. tenge per year.
Implementation of the developed scheme of overburden trenching using an ESH-13/50 dragline at the "Maikuben" coal mine will increase the amount of non-transport overburden to 1.3 million m3 and achieve the economic effect of more than 120 mln. tenge per year.
In 2009 the innovative patent for the invention of the RK "The rock horizons opening method of mineral gently sloping layers »№ 22058 was received.
In cooperation with K.I. Satpaev KazNTU the Department participated in 2 basic research programs in the field of earth sciences under the leadership of B.R. Rakishev.

In 2010 Moldabaev S.K. defended his doctoral thesis at KazNTU
In 2011 Sivaraksha D.M. defended her candidate thesis.
Associate professor Zhekibaeva D.S. prepared her candidate thesis on the topic: "A method of limestone burning on the fire-grate."
In the context of international cooperation on the level of the Institute the contracts with FMA (Germany) and S. Ordzhonikidze RSMRU (Moscow of the Russian Federation), with the OPM Department of K.I.Satpaev KazNTU, the department TE MSMU. In addition, the contacts and friendly relations were established with similar departments of NSU Ukraine, D.Serikbayev EKSTU., Karaganda STU, Irkutsk State Technical University, MagSTU.
